Heart Disease
CBD from full-spectrum hemp extract can be an excellent natural option for pets with heart disease. Its benefits include reducing blood pressure, promoting vasodilation, moderating irregular heartbeats, and reducing inflammation and stress throughout the cardiovascular system.
However, if your pet has a serious heart condition, it’s important to proceed with caution. CBD can amplify the effects of some heart medications, potentially lowering blood pressure further, which in some cases might raise heart rate. To ensure your pet’s safety, always consult your holistic veterinarian before starting CBD, so they can adjust medications if needed.
Once cleared by your holistic veterinarian, we recommend starting with our Ease tincture. We recommend working up to 1.0mL per day, split into 2–3 smaller doses (like 0.5mL in the morning and 0.5mL at night). Breaking the dose up helps keep CBD in the bloodstream throughout the day, which is key to its effectiveness. CBD typically peaks at 2 hours and is gone by 6 hours, so splitting it into smaller doses (a.k.a. microdosing) works best. Monitor your pet closely for any changes in behavior as you find their ideal dose.
The best way to give CBD is to apply it directly to your pet’s gums by lifting their lip. This gets it into the bloodstream quickly. You can also mix it into their food, but it may take longer (30–45 minutes) to take effect since it has to go through digestion first.
For additional heart and respiratory support, try MycoDog’s Breathe tincture. It’s crafted with adaptogenic mushrooms like cordyceps, reishi, artist conk, and chaga, plus ashwagandha. These mushrooms work together synergistically, adapting to your pet’s needs and boosting each other’s effects to provide powerful cardiovascular and respiratory benefits.
